The Angels Of Allah

In The Name Of Allah The Most Gracious And The Most Merciful.

  1. Jibreel (Gabriel) - The Holy Spirit - The high-ranked angel who was assigned by Allah to deliver His revelation to all apostles and prophets.
  2. Mikael (Micheal) - The Angel Of Rain - One of the most distinguished angels. He is charged with providing rain and sustenance for all creatures.
  3. Israfil (Raphael) - Another angel with very high status in Islam. He is charged with blowing the trumpet (horn) on the Day Of Judgement.
  4. Malak-al-Maut - The Angel Of Death - He and his helpers are responsible for taking souls at their predestined times.
  5. Munkar and Nakeer - Questioners Of The Grave - After death, these two angels question souls in the grave about their faith and their deeds.
  6. Malik - Keeper Of Hell - The Quran teaches 19 angels are assigned to guard the hell fire. Among them, Malik has the highest rank.
  7. Ridwan - Keeper Of Paradise - Ridwan stands guard over Heaven. By Allah's permission, he and the other angels will welcome believers into paradise.
  8. Kiraman Katibin - Honorable Recorders -  The two angels who record a person's good and bad deeds. These angels sit on a person's right and left shoulders respectively. If there is one type of deed dominates more than the other, then that type decides if one is sent to the Jannah (Heaven) or the Jahannam (Hell).

Angels are mentioned more than 100 times in the Quran and numerous times in Hadith. Other Angels mentioned in Islamic teaching are:
  • Eight Angels who carry the Throne of Allah
  • Angels who blow souls into human fetuses
  • Angels who descend to the earth and attend religious gatherings
  • Angels Harut and Marut who came to the people of Babylon
  • Angel whose sole purpose is to stand or prostrate to Allah in worship
  • Angel who govern the wind, thunder, lightning, seas, mountains, and other aspects of nature.
The angels are created from light, and are created for the purposed of worshiping Allah and carrying out His orders in the universe. The angels can have many wings, ranging from 2,3,4, up to 600. Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) saw Angel Jibreel in his natural state in the sky with 600 wings, and each one of his wings blocked the horizon. MasyaAllah. The angels belong to the "world of the unseen", (alam al-ghayb). They are the greatest of Allah's armies.

"And to Allah belongs the armies of the heavens and the earth"
(Surah Al-Fath: 4)

Belief in all of the angels is a fundamental part of faith in Islam, which includes belief in One God (Allah), the Angels, the Prophets, the revealed books, the Day Of Judgement, and Divine decree.
